PLM Lake & Land Management – Michigan will provide a professional aquatic plant and algae management program for Cedar Lake, focused on maintaining water quality, usability, and ecological balance.

A copy of the treatment plan contract is available upon inquiry.

Management Plan

PLM will treat aquatic weeds and algae as needed throughout the season using products approved for use in Michigan. Treatments may include a combination of herbicides and algae-control products, depending on what is present at the time of treatment. These products are commonly used in lake management and are applied according to state regulations.

Estimated Treatment Costs

  • Weed Treatment: $475 per treatment Estimated 1–2 treatments per season
  • Algae Treatment: $360 per treatment Estimated 3 treatments per season
  • Phragmites Treatment: Currently not included. State funding is being investigated
  • State Permit Fee: $250 annually Payable to the State of Michigan

Treatment Posting & Notifications

PLM will post treatment signs along the shoreline as required by state regulations.

  • Signs will be placed on existing trees, posts, or fixtures near the treatment area.
  • If homeowners prefer signs placed in specific locations, PLM must be notified at least 14 days before treatment, and additional fees may apply.
  • Homeowners are responsible for removing signs once the restriction period has ended.

Neighbor Notification Requirements

State rules require that all property owners within 100 feet of a treatment area be notified:

  • Notifications must be sent at least 7 days, but no more than 45 days, before treatment.
  • PLM will provide a tentative treatment schedule and a list of proposed products each spring.
  • It is the homeowner’s responsibility to distribute notifications to neighbors.

Optional Electronic & Text Notifications

  • Email notifications may be used if the contracting entity provides an email address.
  • Optional text message reminders can be sent prior to treatment dates if a phone number is provided.
  • Texts are informational only and cannot receive replies.
  • Additional messaging fees may apply.

Plants That Will (and Will Not) Be Treated

PLM only treats weeds and algae that are present at the time of service.

  • Native and beneficial plants are not treated unless specifically included in the plan.
  • Shoreline and emergent plants such as cattails, bulrushes, lilies, and purple loosestrife are not included unless noted.
  • Future weed or algae growth cannot be guaranteed or prevented long-term due to state-approved treatment limitations.
